5K Run, Walk to Benefit Youths in East Palestine

EAST PALESTINE, Ohio – As recovery continues from the Feb. 3 train derailment, the village will be the backdrop for the EP Road 2 Recovery Hometown Walk & 5K Run.

The June 10 event will help fund and improve programs for the village’s youths. Proceeds will be used for programs offering academic, artistic, athletic and entrepreneurial opportunities. The event will also raise awareness about small businesses, many of which are struggling after the derailment.

Runners will travel a course between East Palestine High School and City Park, while walkers will travel 1.5 miles, including on Market Street, where many of the town’s small businesses are located.

Both routes are a mile or more from the train derailment site, where cleanup is continuing.

Norfolk Southern, Compco and the United Way of Northern Columbiana County are sponsoring the event.
