8 New Permits Issued for Belmont County Wells
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued eight permits for new horizontal wells across the Utica shale last week – all of them in Belmont County in the southeastern tier of the oil and gas play.
Gulfport Energy Corp. received four permits for its Dorsey well pad in Richland Township. Rice Drilling LLC received three for its Taco Cat well pad in Goshen Township. And Ascent Resources was awarded a single permit for a well at its Oboy pad in Colerain Township.
The number of rigs operating in the Utica shale for the week ended May 14 stood at 12. To date, 2,176 permits have been issued in the Utica, 1,736 wells have been drilled and 1,312 wells are in production, according to ODNR.
No new permits were issued in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties, according to ODNR.
And no new Utica permits were issued for nearby Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
