Coronavirus Case Update: Oct. 1, 2020

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Health reports 1,327 new cases of COVID-19 since Wednesday to bring the cumulative number of cases in the state to 155,314, as well as 4,817 total deaths – up 13 since Wednesday. The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports 160,123 total cases – up 1,156 from Wednesday – and 8,160 deaths, up 18.

In Mahoning County, the ODH reports 3,155 cases – up 29 from Wednesday – with 499 hospitalizations and 282 deaths. Mahoning County Public Health reports 3,150 cases.

The ODH reports 1,949 cases in Trumbull County – up 18 from Wednesday – with 348 hospitalizations and 132 deaths. In Columbiana County, the ODH reports 1,966 positive cases – seven new cases – along with 221 hospitalizations and 80 deaths.

Trumbull County is rated Yellow in the state’s color-coded Public Health Advisory System. Yellow indicates active exposure and spread. Mahoning and Columbiana counties are rated Orange, with increased exposure and spread.

Of the total cases reported by ODH, 146,438 are confirmed. ODH reported 8,876 probable cases based on the CDC’s expanded case definition. There have been 15,606 hospitalizations and 3,297 intensive care admissions, as well as 4,817 total deaths, which breaks down to 4,514 confirmed deaths and another 303 probable deaths under the CDC expanded diagnosis definition. The 21-day reported case average is 1,011.

The state reports a presumed 134,216 Ohioans have recovered after testing positive. Presumed recovered is defined as cases with a symptom onset date of greater than 21 days prior who are not deceased, according to the ODH website.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports 160,123 total cases, with 558 people hospitalized with 60 on ventilators. The commonwealth reported 8,160 COVID-related deaths thus far. Of the cases reported, 154,822 are confirmed.

Of all tests conducted in Pennsylvania, 1,889,639 were reported negative. With positive cases, 82% have recovered (If a case has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of their first positive test or onset of symptoms, then the person is considered recovered, according to the health department’s website).

Mercer County has 747 total cases – up three from Wednesday – and 20 deaths with 11,967 negative tests, while Lawrence County has 540 total cases and 23 deaths, as well as 7,758 negative tests.
