Coronavirus Case Update: Oct. 2, 2020
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Health reports 1,495 new cases of COVID-19 since Thursday to bring the cumulative number of cases in the state to 156,809, as well as 4,905 total deaths – up 88 since Thursday. The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports 161,284 total cases – up 1,161 from Thursday – and 8,179 deaths, up 19.
In Mahoning County, the ODH reports 3,194 cases – up 39 from Thursday – with 502 hospitalizations and 282 deaths. Mahoning County Public Health reports 3,189 cases.
The ODH reports 1,964 cases in Trumbull County – up 15 from Thursday – with 348 hospitalizations and 132 deaths. The Trumbull County Combined Health District reports 1,955 total cases and 130 deaths.
In Columbiana County, the ODH reports 1,977 positive cases – 11 new cases – along with 221 hospitalizations and 82 deaths. The Columbiana County Health District reports 1,983 positive cases – up 51 from Sept. 25 – and 81 deaths.
Trumbull County is rated Yellow in the state’s color-coded Public Health Advisory System. Yellow indicates active exposure and spread. Mahoning and Columbiana counties are rated Orange, with increased exposure and spread.
Of the total cases reported by ODH, 147,797 are confirmed. ODH reported 9,012 probable cases based on the CDC’s expanded case definition. There have been 15,688 hospitalizations and 3,312 intensive care admissions, as well as 4,905 total deaths, which breaks down to 4,597 confirmed deaths and another 308 probable deaths under the CDC expanded diagnosis definition. The 21-day reported case average is 1,023.
The state reports a presumed 135,301 Ohioans have recovered after testing positive. Presumed recovered is defined as cases with a symptom onset date of greater than 21 days prior who are not deceased, according to the ODH website.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports 161,284 total cases, with 561 people hospitalized with 63 on ventilators. The commonwealth reported 8,179 COVID-related deaths thus far. Of the cases reported, 155,906 are confirmed.
Of all tests conducted in Pennsylvania, 1,904,971 were reported negative. With positive cases, 82% have recovered (If a case has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of their first positive test or onset of symptoms, then the person is considered recovered, according to the health department’s website).
Mercer County has 757 total cases – up 10 from Wednesday – and 20 deaths with 12,101 negative tests, while Lawrence County has 548 total cases – eight more cases – and 23 deaths, as well as 7,835 negative tests.
