After 3 Days of Increases, Ohio Sees New Virus Cases Dip Slightly
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Health reported a new record of 2,148 new cases of COVID-19 since Thursday – 30 fewer than the number of new cases – to bring the cumulative number of cases in the state to 177,991.
The state also reports 5,054 total deaths – up 16 since Thursday – and 16,910 hospitalizations, up 86 from the day before.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports 179,086 total cases – up 1,566 from Wednesday – and 8,457 deaths, up 25.
In Mahoning County, the ODH reports 3,515 cases – up 39 from Wednesday – with 536 hospitalizations and 283 deaths. Mahoning County Public Health reports 3,510 cases and the same number of deaths.
The ODH reports 2,141 cases in Trumbull County – up 16 from Tuesday – with 365 hospitalizations and 134 deaths.
In Columbiana County, the ODH reports 2,062 positive cases – nine new cases – along with 232 hospitalizations and 87 deaths. The Columbiana County Health District reports 2,061 cases and the same number of deaths.
Mahoning County is rated Red in the state’s color-coded Public Health Advisory System, indicating very high exposure and spread. Columbiana and Trumbull counties have an Orange rating, indicating increased exposure and spread.
Of the total cases reported by ODH, 167,674 are confirmed. ODH reported 10,317 probable cases based on the CDC’s expanded case definition. There have been 16,910 hospitalizations and 3,522 intensive care admissions, as well as 5,054 total deaths, which breaks down to 4,746 confirmed deaths and another 308 probable deaths under the CDC expanded diagnosis definition. The 21-day reported case average is 1,386, up from 48 from Wednesday.
The state reports a presumed 1478,284 Ohioans have recovered after testing positive. Presumed recovered is defined as cases with a symptom onset date of greater than 21 days prior who are not deceased, according to the ODH website.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports 179,086 total cases, with 830 people hospitalized and 80 on ventilators. The commonwealth reports 8,457 COVID-related deaths thus far. Of the cases reported, 171,169 are confirmed.
Of all tests conducted in Pennsylvania, 2,103,044 were reported negative. With positive cases, 80% have recovered (If a case has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of their first positive test or onset of symptoms, then the person is considered recovered, according to the health department’s website).
Mercer County has 867 total cases – up five from Thursday – and 25 deaths with 13,131 negative tests, while Lawrence County has 685 total cases – four new cases from Thursday – and 24 deaths, as well as 8,588 negative tests.
