Chamber Seeks Applications for Funds from Capital Budget
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber is inviting villages, cities, townships, economic development and other nonprofit organizations and cultural entities to apply for appropriations from the state capial budget.
The chamber will act as liaison between the applicants and the delegation who represent the Mahoning Valley in Columbus, says Guy Coviello, chamber vice president for government affairs.
Applicants can make in-person presentations to a committee of three from the chamber, Western Reserve Port Authority and Eastgate Regional Council of Governments along with the Valley delegation.
Afterward, the screening committee rate the merits of each and deliver its list of to the governor’s office.
A similar process two years ago led to the Valley’s receiving $2.5 million for community development projects, the chamber says. Another $900,000 was awarded to cultural organizations. Add funding for higher education and the Valley received $15.2 million from the state capital budget, Coviello says.
Among the projects awarded funding in the last capital budget were the fifth building on the Youngstown Business Incubator campus; the Tech Belt Energy Innovation Center’s integration laboratory in downtown Warren; Mercy College’s nursing outreach initiative at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center; the creation of an oil and gas industry learning center in Lordstown; and repairs to the Southern Park Historic District in Boardman.
Applications, due Nov. 30, can be found at the chamber website.
