Meridian, Neil Kennedy Partner to Expand Detox Services

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Meridian Healthcare and Neil Kennedy Recovery Centers are working together to offer a regional detox program and other treatment services, work aimed at reducing overdose rates in the Mahoning Valley.

Neil Kennedy will provide 16 beds at its Youngstown Center, 2151 Rush Blvd., for medically monitored detox and intensive residential services. In addition, there will be 44 beds available at the organization’s sober homes for less-intensive levels of care, as well as the Neil Kennedy Recovery Centers’ Intensive Outpatient Program at 5211 Mahoning Ave.

“During these unprecedented times with the COVID19 pandemic and the relentless surge in increased drug overdoses, depression and other mental health issues including suicide ideation — now more than ever community collaboration is necessary;” said Carolyn Givens, executive director at Neil Kennedy, in a statement.

Meridian, meanwhile, offers a 16-bed detox center at its South Campus site, 550 W. Chalmers Ave. On Jan. 1, the site will beginning taking admissions 24/7. Across its other sites, Meridian also offers inpatient and outpatient treatment, mental health services, recovery support, primary care, family planning services, criminal justice services and more than 200 beds of supportive housing.

“Both organizations want to be there for those in the community who are struggling with an addiction and need access to care,” said Larry Moliterno, president and CEO of Meridian. “Together, we can provide the expertise, programming and support needed to help those in need and reduce the overdose rates in our community.”

Meridian and Neil Kennedy Recovery Centers are both part of the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board’s Preferred Care Network, which is composed exclusively of non-profit organizations funded by the board that have demonstrated that they are qualified, caring and have the best interests of those they serve at heart. 

“Mahoning County is blessed to have both Neil Kennedy and Meridian as part of our safety net of care,” sid Duane Piccirilli, executive director of the board. “The collaboration between the two agencies is a model for seamless services of care in our community.”
