Aqua Ohio to Replace Water Main in Beaver Twp.
MAHONING COUNTY — Digging is expected to begin Thursday morning to replace nearly 6,000 feet of water main along Market Street in Beaver Township, Aqua Ohio announced Wednesday.
Approximately 40 customers will experience short-term interruptions as their individual services are disconnected from the old line and attached to the new main. Those customers will be notified in advance of planned interruptions.
“We’re kicking off the project this week and plan to have everything complete by May,” said Jennifer Johnson, Aqua’s area manager, in a statement. “This is part of a multiyear plan to replace main on Market Street which is the primary supply through Boardman and Beaver townships. The new main will increase reliability of service and ensure adequate supply for current and future development in this commercial corridor.”
Traffic flow will be maintained with work conducted in the right of way, outside the driving areas. However, drivers are asked to use extra caution in the area as crews and equipment may need to intermittently use the southbound lane to support activity on the shoulder of the road.
The $800,000 project stretches from Western Reserve Road south to I-76. This is the continuation of a project that started in 2020 when 2,700 feet of main was replaced in the area of Market Street and Western Reserve Road intersection.
The project includes the replacement of 5,825 linear feet of eight-inch diameter pipe with a 12-inch line and nine new hydrants. It includes 24 new valves to help isolate portions of the line for future repair or maintenance.
Aqua Ohio provides water service 60,000 people in Mahoning Country in the cities of Campbell and Struthers; villages of Lowellville, New Middletown and Poland; and Beaver, Boardman, Canfield, Coitsville, Poland and Springfield townships.
