Oak Hill Offering Free Emergency Broadband Benefit Workshops

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Oak Hill Collaborative will offer two free Emergency Broadband Benefit Workshops to assist residents with verification and enrollment.

The workshops will also explore low-cost internet options and assist residents in identifying discount personal computer options, as well as options for training and education. The one-hour workshops are scheduled for 2 p.m. on May 12, and 10 a.m. on May 15, at the Oak Hill building located at 507 Oak Hill Ave.

“No one should have to choose between paying their internet bill or paying to put food on the table,” Pat Kerrigan, Oak Hill executive director said in a press release. “With the help of the FCC’s new Emergency Broadband Benefit Program qualifying households will have a new way access virtual learning, connect to telehealth for health care, or perhaps learn new online skills and seek their next job.”

Current internet service provider programs already offer discounted service to eligible residents. The Emergency Broadband Benefit provides additional discounts of up to $50 monthly toward broadband service for eligible households.

Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer or tablet from participating providers.
