Despite Dip, Racino Posts Third-Best Month Ever
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Video lottery terminal wagers at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course declined for the second consecutive month in May, totaling $146.5 million.
May’s wagers still represented the third-highest month for VLT play at the Austintown Township racino, according to the Ohio Lottery Commission’s monthly reports. May wagers were down about $5.7 million from the $152.3 million bet on the racino’s VLTs in April.
The monthly record was set in March, when $153.2 million was bet at the racino, with April’s total marking the second-best month since the venue opened.
Statewide, VLT wagers in May totaled $1.3 billion, down just over $17 million from the month before.
Local patrons have wagered $1.3 billion at the racino since the start of the current fiscal year in July 2020. They took home nearly $130.7 million.
Net win – the amount left when winnings and promotional play credits are subtracted from wagers – totaled $14.1 million.
Out of that, Penn National Gaming Inc., the Wyomissing, Pa., company that operates the racino, received $9.4 million. The lottery commission, which oversees VLT operations in Ohio, received $4.7 million.
