Salute to Local Vets | Ben Perez, SFC, E-7, U.S. Army
Leading up to our Salute to Vets coverage in the July 2021 edition, we recognize Sgt. 1st Class Ben Perez.
Perez served two tours in Korea and Vietnam as an Airborne Medic and in the Special Forces, recording more than 350 jumps with the 82nd and 187th Airborne divisions. He earned a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
“He has saved so many lives during his 24 years serving our country, and then 26 years managing the Respiratory Therapy division at Audie Murphy VA hospital in San Antonio, Texas,” says Perez’s son, Richard Perez, director of marketing and business development, East Liverpool City Hospital.
Perez also honored distinguished Medal of Honor recipient Louis R. Rocco, a family friend and Richard’s godfather. As a chief warrant officer in the Army, Rocco served with Perez’s father.
“Both of these men symbolize what it means to be a true American,” Perez says.
