YNDC Raises Funds to Restore Foster Marquee
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A campaign to repair the marquee of the historic Foster Theater already has raised nearly $1,800 as of Wednesday morning.
The GoFundMe fundraiser was launched a week ago by Jack Daugherty, neighborhood stabilization for Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. YNDC purchased the former adult movie theater, which was built in 1938, last month for $99,999.
While the building itself is structurally sound, its marquee and façade “have fallen into disrepair over the past few decades,” YNDC said on the GoFundMe page.
As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, 23 donors contributed $1,790 toward the fundraising campaign’s $20,000 goal. Funds raised will be used to re-wire the marquee, install energy-efficient lights for the display boards and canopy, restore the hand-crafted neon accent lights, and repaint and restore the original 1938 lettering for the display boards.
“Once restored, the marquee will be used to display inspirational messages while the future reuse of the building is planned and developed,” YNDC said on the GoFundMe page.
