Mahoning Gains Boost January Home Sales in Region
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – January sales of single-family houses in the Mahoning Valley region were up more than 21% from a year earlier, driven largely by a spike in sales in Mahoning County.
The latest monthly reports from data compiled by the Youngstown Columbiana Association of Realtors and the Warren Area Board of Realtors show 353 houses were sold in the three counties last month, up from 291 in January 2015 although down from December’s 454.
The bulk of the increase came from Mahoning County, were 175 houses were sold in January, up 21.5% from the 144 sold a year earlier but down from 216 in December.
Sales in Trumbull county in January – 124 units – were off two from the 126 sold a year earlier and down from December’s 169. The 154 houses sold last month in Columbiana County represent a 5.9% gain from January 2015’s 51 but down from December’s 69 units sold.
The average sale price in January increased in Trumbull and Columbiana counties compared to a year ago, while it declined in Mahoning County.
During January, the average sale price of a home in Trumbull County was $100,285, up 22.5% from $81,882 a year ago and up from $86,138 in December.
In Columbiana County, the average selling price for a house last month was $101,776, up 2.3% from $99,468 in January 2015 and ahead of December’s $101,163.
The average sale price in Mahoning County declined last month to $87,102, down 4.8% from $91,371 in January 2015 and down from $110,973 in December.
