Alta Care Plans New Building at Camp Challenge
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Alta Care Group will begin construction on a building at its Camp Challenge location on the West Side.
The cost of the building is not yet known as construction bids have not yet been received, according Alta spokesperson Adrienne Sabo.
The 2,400-square-foot structure will provide Alta with additional space for behavioral health services for youths age 6 to 18. The agency will also operate its mental health day treatment summer program there, as well as a host of other programs. Construction will begin this fall.
Funding comes from a $300,000 grants from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services capital grant and over $160,000 raised from the community and partners.
Services at the new facility will complement Camp Challenge’s current social-recreational and therapeutic programming, which helps children with behavioral and social skills.
Alta is committed to the social, emotional, behavioral, educational and physical well-being of children, adolescents, young adults and families.
Alta received contributions from PNC Charitable Foundation, Western Reserve Health Foundation, Premier Bank Foundation, Garry L. and Wanda B. Mrozek Family Foundation, Cortland Bank and the Youngstown Foundation totalling $161,750.
Additionally, the agency will soon announce a building dedication thanks to another significant donation from a local family foundation.
Joe Shorokey, CEO of Alta, said the five-acre Camp Challenge, nestled against Mill Creek Park along Wilkinson Avenue, is a unique program.
“It offers children and families behavioral healthcare in an intensive recreational and experiential program,” Shorokey said. “And it’s something we’ve been honored to provide to the community for over 35 years. With this amazing support from the community, we are able to build upon that legacy both physically and metaphorically.”
