Oil and Gas Production Increases in Ohio’s Utica

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Oil and gas production across the state hit record numbers last year despite low commodity prices and a reduction in drilling across the Utica shale, according to figures released today by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

ODNR reports that during the fourth quarter of 2015, Ohio’s horizontal shale wells produced 6.249 million barrels of oil and 303 billion cubic feet of natural gas. Production of oil increased 10% while gas production increased nearly 25% compared to the previous quarter.

Ohio produced 21.9 million barrels of oil during 2015, a 99.9% increase over 2014. Natural gas production soared 110.6% over 2014, as Utica wells produced 953.8 billion cubic feet of gas last year versus 452.8 billion cubic feet a year earlier

ODNR’s report lists 1,265 wells, 1,230 of which reported production. The average amount of oil produced was 5,081 barrels per well during the quarter, while the average amount of natural gas per well stood at 245.9 million cubic feet.

The average number of production days during the quarter was 83, ODNR reported.
