Clinton to Campaign in Youngstown Saturday
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Hillary Clinton will appear Saturday night at M7 Technologies, her presidential campaign announced late Friday afternoon.
Doors will open at 5:45 p.m.. The event begins at 7:30 p.m.
Clinton will “discuss her plans to break down the barriers that hold too many families back and create a ‘new bargain’ to generate more, good-paying jobs in America,” according to the news release announcing the campaign stop.
“Ohio is an important state in the election and Hillary is the leading candidate, and we’re excited to be asked to host her,” Michael Garvey, president of M7 Technologies, said in the announcement.
Garvey hosted a campaign event at M7 featuring Vice President Joe Biden during the 2012 campaign.
Clinton’s visit will come the day before Gov. John Kasich, seeking the Republican nomination for president, meets with supporters at the Spread Eagle Tavern in Hanoverton and two days before Kasich headlines a town hall meeting at Brilex Industries here. Youngstown State University President Jim Tressel and U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, will join Kasich at both events.
Ohio’s primary is Tuesday.
David Betras, chairman of the Mahoning County Democratic Party, also said he is excited that Clinton was coming to the Mahoning Valley, which has a “great relationship” with Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton. The Valley “voted overwhelmingly” for her, he said, when she ran in 2008 against then-U.S. Sen. Barack Obama.
Clinton won Ohio but lost the nomination to Obama. Clinton served as secretary of state during Obama’s first term.
The former secretary of state is being challenged by U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who scored a surprise win in Michigan.
“I think her prospects are very good,” Betras said. People who might ordinarily vote for Sanders are requesting Republican ballots to vote for businessman Donald Trump, he remarked.
