United Way of Lawrence County Hits 60% of Goal

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The United Way of Lawrence County has reached 60% of its $400,000 goal for this year’s annual campaign, the organization announced.

Funds raised support the organization’s local programs and services. Campaign highlights include contributions by Preston Auto Group ($6,000), UPS ($4,120), PNC Bank ($3,000) and New Castle Rotary Club ($1,000).

Nonprofits Lark Enterprises and ARC donated $6,308 and $4,870, respectively.

The annual Taste of the Town event raised $13,000, and the Preston Foundation sponsored the event in the amount of $25,000, says Joanne Preston, chairperson.

“Lawrence County Courthouse employees raised $8,624 to date to support the United Way Campaign,” reported Karen King, personnel director, Lawrence County Courthouse.

Anyone who donated $250 to the campaign is eligible for a prize package donated by local businesses, including:

  • New Castle Community Y Zone YMCA: One-year membership.
  • Cialella & Carney Floral Designs: Monthly floral arrangements and a surprise package worth $500.
  • Taste of Lawrence County: $250 in local restaurant gift cards.
  • Stramba Farm & Fiber Mill: $250 in alpaca products and $250 surprise package.

United Way will hold a drawing on April 19, 2022 at the Annual Victory Celebration Dinner Meeting to award these prizes.

United Way Executive Director Gayle Young reminds residents that the 211 hotline is still available for families dealing with issues this season.

“This is a hotline that works like 911,” she says. “This service connects people in need with available resources, such as financial and food assistance, free tax preparation, health care assistance, substance abuse treatment, caring for a child, aging relative, or person with disabilities, volunteer opportunities and assistance with energy bills.”
