Foot, Ankle & Wound Center Offers New 3-Plane Bunion Surgery
WARREN, Ohio — Dr. James LaPolla Jr. at Northeast Ohio Foot, Ankle & Wound Center now offers Lapiplasty, a three-plane bunion correction surgery that reduces recovery time and has a high success rate for bunions to not reoccur.
The patented procedure uses cleared medical devices to precisely correct the bunion deformity in all three dimensions at the root of the problem, according to a press release. Compared to traditional bunionectomies that correct bunions in two dimensions, LaPolla fixes the unstable joint with minimal downtime or loss of work. Studies have shown a 97% of Lapiplasty patients maintaining their correction after 13 months, according to the release.
“I am pleased to offer my patients this patented titanium technology, as the procedure allows me to restore their natural anatomy without cutting and shifting the metatarsal bone,” LaPolla said in the release. “This new surgery allows the entire bone to be rotated and shifted back into place, which eliminates the unsightly bunion on a patient’s foot.”
Advanced technology allows patients to walk within days of the surgery without the need for a cast. Patients can use a boot for four to six weeks after surgery, and can wear comfortable footwear between six to eight weeks, according to the release. Patients can wear normal shoes after two months.
Northeast Ohio Foot, Ankle & Wound Center clinics are located at 8588 E. Market Street in Howland and 7264 Warren-Sharon Road in Brookfield. LaPolla also has staff privileges at Akron Children’s Hospital, Trumbull Regional Medical Center, Sharon Regional Medical Center and Mercy Health – St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
