Steward Hospitals Achieve Top Medicare Rating
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Although the past two years presented many challenges for Steward Health Care, the company’s regional hospitals continued to provide the highest quality of care.
That commitment was reflected in Steward’s achievement of a 100% quality rating from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service’s Medicare Shared Savings Program, says Robert Rogalski, president of Steward’s Ohio-Pennsylvania region.
Steward’s Medicare Accountable Care Organization ranked first nationally in quality, membership and the second-highest shared savings payout, he says.
Steward owns and operates Trumbull Regional Medical Center in Warren; Sharon Regional Medical Center in Sharon, Pa.; and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in Warren. In 2021, all three experienced notable growth, according to Rogalski.
Trumbull Regional achieved Chest Pain v6 Accreditation last year, Rogalski says. The hospital is the only accredited chest pain center in the Mahoning Valley.
Trumbull also launched the congestive heart failure clinic, which focuses on reducing hospital admissions and improving quality of life through education and guideline- directed medical therapy. Since the clinic’s inception in September 2021, the hospital has experienced a 10% decrease in congestive heart failure readmissions.
Behavioral health services were expanded in 2021 with a new suite in the emergency department, Rogalski says. This three-phase construction project was a $1.63 million investment in Trumbull Regional’s level III trauma center to better streamline patient care.
Sharon Regional Medical Center expanded its advanced cardiac interventional procedures in 2021, Rogalski says. This includes adding transcatheter aortic valve replacement and the Watchman Implant, an alternative treatment for patients with Afib.
The hospital also opened the Sharon Regional Diagnostic and Specialty Center in New Castle, Pa., to expand access to diagnostic services and specialists in Lawrence County.
At Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, physical therapy services to the Cortland community were expanded by opening Elm Road Rehabilitation Services, Rogalski says.
In addition to these achievements, Steward added more than 600 employees in the region last year, Rogalski says.
