Racino Play Dips in June, Finishes FY22 at $1.7B

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Video lottery terminal wagers at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course, declined for the second consecutive month in June, but VLT play for the fiscal year still exceeded last year’s by more than $238 million.

VLT wagers totaled approximately $140.6 million, slightly down from June 2021 and down from $150.6 million in May, the Ohio Lottery Commission reported Thursday. In April, the racino posted a record $157.9 million in wagers.

Wagers for the full 2022 fiscal year, which ended June 30, were just short of $1.7 billion, up from about $1.5 billion for the 2021 fiscal year.

Credits won in June totaled $125.5 million, down from $134.8 million in May and just above the $125.3 million in June 2021. Winnings for the fiscal year that ended last week totaled $1.5 billion, up from nearly $1.3 billion a year earlier.  

Net win – what remains after credits won and credits promotional play credits are subtracted from credits played – in June totaled $13.1 million, down from nearly $13.5 million a year earlier.

Total net win for the 2022 fiscal year was $158.5 million, compared with $141.1 million the previous fiscal year.   

Penn National Gaming, the Wyomissing, Pa. company that operates the racino, received nearly $8.7 million as its share of net win, down from $9.2 million in May and from $8.9 million in June 2021. Penn National’s take was $104.9 million for the 2022 fiscal year, compared with $93.4 million the year before.

The lottery commission, which oversees VLT operations in Ohio, received $4.4 million out of net win in June, down from $4.6 million the month before and from $4.5 million in June 2021.The commission received $53.1 million for the recently ended fiscal year, compared with $47.3 million the year before.

VLT wagers totaled $14.7 billion statewide for the 2022 fiscal year, up from $12.8 billion the year before.
