The Update | Dinner for David El’Hatton Scholarship; DMB Tribute Concert; ‘Gospel Nativity’ Auditions

BOARDMAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio – A spaghetti dinner to raise funds for the David J. El’Hatton Scholarship will take place Saturday, Sept. 10, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Trinity Fellowship Church, 4749 South Ave.

The fund honors the late David J. El’Hatton, who was one of the Mahoning Valley’s premiere actors and directors. El’Hatton performed and directed many plays in local theaters, starring in many roles at The Youngstown Playhouse. He died at age 47 in 2018.

The memorial scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior to help with college education. 

The Oakland Acorn Project is presenting the event, which will include entertainment by the Kids First Theater Initiative. There will also be a basket raffle and a 50/50 drawing.

The dinner will include spaghetti, meatballs, salad, dessert and a drink for $12 adults ($8 for 12 and under). Chicken parmesan can be substitute as the entree for an additional $4. Soda is $1 extra. Dave Matthews Band Experience in Concert

WARREN, OHIO – The Dave Matthews Band Experience will come to The Robins Theatre on Nov. 11 for a 7:30 p.m. concert.

Tickets for this Dave Matthews Band tribute concert range from $15 to $25, plus applicable fees and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at robinstheatre.com and at the box office, 160 E. Market St..

A presale will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday exclusively for members of Friends of the Robins Theatre. For information regarding membership, go to the website or the box office.

Auditions for ‘Gospel Nativity’ at Hopewell Theatre

YOUNGSTOWN – Auditions for Hopewell Theatre’s production of “Child of Glory: A Gospel Nativity” will take place Sept. 16-19 at the theater, 702 Mahoning Ave.

This original musical, written and directed by Carla D. Gipson of Youngstown, retells the Christmas story with shepherds, wisemen, angels, and townspeople.

Auditions are open to actors of all ethnicities from ages12 to 70. Auditionees should be prepared to sing at least one minute of a gospel, rap, R&B or traditional song. Auditionees may bring an instrumental track or sing a capella. They will also be asked to read from the script. All roles are open.

Hours for auditions are 6-8 p.m. Sept. 16; 1-3 p.m. Sept. 17; 2-4 p.m. Sept. 18; and 6-8 p.m. Sept. 19.

Performance dates are Dec. 2-4 and 9-11.

In addition to actors, the director is looking for an experienced stage manager, music director, light and sound techs, stage crew and costumes/ props coordinator(s).
