West Side Group Holds First “Neighbor Day”
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A local non-profit organization, Rocky Ridge Neighborhood Association, will host its first “Neighbor Day” community event on Sunday, Sept. 18, at West Side Bowl. Family-friendly activities kick off at 3 p.m. A presentation to distribute donations from the neighborhood organization will take place at 4 p.m. on the main stage. Live music will then continue throughout the evening. There will be no event fee to enter.
“Rocky Ridge Neighbors is all about finding ways to build a better place to live and work,” says representative John Slanina. “Having this new event is yet another way to welcome new folks, celebrate with familiar faces, and to expand upon the Mill Creek Maple Syrup project, which allows the group to make charitable donations that improve the quality of life on Youngstown’s West Side.
Rocky Ridge Neighbor Day will provide kids of all ages with activities and treats such as face painting, balloon bending, magic shows, discounted bowling, free pizza slices and free maple syrup-flavored cotton candy. The Del Sinchak Band will perform their signature style of polka music and other live music will close out the evening.
There will be a table display and video presentation of Rocky Ridge Neighbors’ activities and charitable efforts. The group will also be giving an update on its Mill Creek Maple syrup project. In addition, Thrive Mahoning Valley and Mahoning Valley Historical Society will participate with on-site resources. Thrive will conclude their 2022 Welcoming Week at this neighborhood event. The group works to create a more welcoming and equitable community while striving to connect new and current residents to economic, social, and educational opportunities. Mahoning Valley Historical Society partners with local organizations at various events to provide educational materials and activities related to the history of the area.
Another part of the day’s event will be drawings to win gift items, discounts, etc. from community organizations and businesses. Instead of purchasing tickets, attendees will be able to submit a positive idea to help improve the Rocky Ridge neighborhood in return for a single entry. All will be encouraged to enter as many “idea cards” as they wish. The winners will not need to be present at the time of the drawing and will be notified by phone after the event.
