Foundation Names Health Care Award Recipients
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley will present its awards for exceptional health care tonight at the DeYor Performing Arts Center.
The annual Health Care Visionary Awards spotlight local health care workers who “exemplify mission and service to their communities, project visionary leadership in helping make the Mahoning Valley a healthier place and provide exceptional stewardship of the resources provided by the Mercy Health Foundation,” the foundation said.
This year’s honorees are Dr. Amy Acton, Dr. James F. Kravec, Mirta Arrowsmith and the Mercy Health–Youngstown Hispanic Health Program.
Acton will receive the Mahoning Valley Leadership in Health Award. The physician and public health researcher is a Youngstown native who started as a medical student at Mercy Health–St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
From 2019-2020, Acton was at the forefront of Ohio’s COVID-19 pandemic response as the director of the Ohio Department of Health. She was also awarded the 2021 COVID Courage Award from the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum and was recognized as being the Ohio Honoree for USA Today’s Women of the Year award.
Kravec will receive The Heart of the Mission Award for his time as a board-certified internal medical physician, chief clinical officer of Mercy Healt–Lorain and Youngstown, and the medical director of the Mahoning County Public Health Department. Kravec also played a key role in Mercy Health’s COVID-19 response efforts.
Arrowsmith and the Mercy Health-Youngstown Hispanic Health program will receive The Continuing Legacy Award. The program offers health care assistance to Hispanic and immigrant workers in historically underserved communities.
Arrowsmith, a nurse for the program, has provided these communities with health screenings, assistance navigating the healthcare system and basic health education classes.
Tickets for the 7 p.m. event are available for $50 at the door or online HERE. No cash will be accepted.
