The Update | Ballet Students Create Show for Event; Playhouse Extends ‘Mullingar’ Run

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Ballet Western Reserve’s annual Building Art fundraiser will take place Saturday, March 11, at the school’s home in the Morley Arts Building, 218 W. Boardman St., downtown.

BWR’s eight graduating seniors will perform a show they have created.

“The seniors have watched the faculty put together shows for years, and this year we thought it would be fun to let them have a chance to see what we do,” said Katie Merrill, executive director.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., with the Senior Showcase beginning at 7 p.m. in the third-floor theater. Tickets are $35 ($15 for students and college students with ID). Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres are included in the ticket price. All funds raised will benefit BWR’s building fund. Call 330 744 1934 or email [email protected].

Playhouse Extends Run of ‘Outside Mullingar’

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – In response to the strong demand, The Youngstown Playhouse has extended the run of “Outside Mullingar,” adding performances at 7:30 p.m. March 11 and 2:30 p.m. March 12.

The drama, by playwright John Patrick Shanley, has been very popular with audiences in its Youngstown debut. All performances have been sold out.

The cast of the moving drama is Chuck Kettering, Joanna Andrei, Molly Galano and Samuel Perry. Chris Fidram is the director.

The show is being staged in the Moyer Room.

Ballet of Ukraine Coming to Powers

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The State Ballet of Ukraine will return to Youngstown on Nov. 7 to perform “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” at Powers Auditorium. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Watch Fob and Toy Show in Mantua

MANTUA, Ohio – The 59th annual International Watch Fob Association show and sale will take place April 28-29 at Lakeside Sand and Gravel, 3498 Frost Road.

Watch fobs, memorabilia, toys and construction equipment memorabilia will be offered for sale, and there will be a live demonstration of vintage construction equipment.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 28, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 29. Admission is free.

Millennial Theatre Presents ‘Tony and Tina’s Wedding’

BOARDMAN, Ohio – The Millennial Theatre Company will present the interactive dinner-theater show “Tony and Tina’s Wedding” at 7 p.m. May 5 and 6 at St. Luke’s church, 5235 South Ave.

The show makes audience members the guests at the wedding of Tony Nunzio and Valentina Vitale. Following the church service is a reception where the audience joins the wedding party and their bickering families for a pasta dinner, champagne toasts, wedding cake, cookie tables and dancing.

Tickets are $40 and include a full Italian wedding meal with dessert and admission to the show. Beer and wine will be available for an additional cost. Tickets are on sale now at millennialtheatre.org.

Local Historian Posey to Give Lecture

BOARDMAN, Ohio – Local historian and author Sean Posey will speak at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 11, at Boardman Park’s St. James Meeting House, 375 Boardman-Poland Road.

The lecture is sponsored by the Boardman Historical Society.

Posey has a master’s degree in history from Youngstown State University. His work has been featured in a variety of publications, including The New Republic, CityLab, Salon and Moyers and Company. Copies of his books will be for sale after the program and can be signed by the author at no charge. His latest book is “Hidden History of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley.”

The BHS seeks to preserve Boardman area history. It maintains a museum in Boardman Park’s Oswald Detchon House. For information or to make reservations, contact Dona Hammond at 330 726 0651.

Friendly Squares Plan Monthly Dance

NILES, Ohio – The Friendly Squares will host its monthly square dance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the Niles SCOPE Center, 14 E. State St. 

Neil Harner will be the caller, and Frankie Hammond will cue line dances. 

St. Patrick’s Day will be the theme. This will be a high/low dance with tips for dancers currently taking lessons and for more experienced dancers. Dress is casual. Admission is $6. For information, call 330 506 3370.
