Ursuline Sisters Mission Opens Office in Champion
CHAMPION, Ohio – Ursuline Sisters Mission has opened an office in the township to provide support services for adult learners of its Scholars Program in Trumbull County.
“We’re excited to have this new space in Trumbull County to connect with and empower scholars to complete their post-secondary education,” said Keshia Bales, chief program officer for Ursuline Sisters Mission.
The new office is located at 4602 Mahoning Ave., near the Kent State University at Trumbull campus and the Trumbull Career & Technical Center. The space will serve as a gathering place for students.
The program’s coordinator, Alicia Trescott, will be based at the office.
The Scholars Program provides student advocacy and support, financial assistance, mentoring and personal and professional development opportunities. Many of the students served are single parents, first-generation, post-secondary students or nontraditional students.
The program serves students in Trumbull, Mahoning and Ashtabula counties.
Many adult learners are managing their classes along with internships, employment, raising children and maintaining a household.
“The Scholars Program provides ongoing support to assist them with anything that could jeopardize their ability to complete their degree,” Trescott said.
Since 2018, the Scholars Program has served more than 30 students in Trumbull County from its offices in Mahoning and Ashtabula counties.
“We have a nearly 90% success rate with the Trumbull County scholars, measured either by continued education in their program or graduation,” said Sarah Chill, education director for Ursuline Sisters Mission.
The Scholars Program has ongoing enrollment. Students with a 2.0 GPA or higher who are struggling financially and in need of additional support while enrolled in an accredited post-secondary program may qualify.
