New Court Games Area to be Constructed in Firestone Park

COLUMBIANA, Ohio – A 15,000-square-foot court games area will be constructed at Firestone Park.

The $500,000 project, currently in the design phase, is being funded by an endowment from the Tingle Family Foundation and is expected to open in early summer 2024. Pat Tingle, a Columbiana resident and benefactor of the park, leads the foundation. She and her late husband, Bradford, founded it.

The new area will feature two horseshoe courts, a shuffleboard court, a bocce court, a 20-foot-by-20-foot shade structure, park benches and ADA parking. It will be named Perry Kaiser Courts in honor of the park’s manager from 1949 to 1972. It is being designed by the Herbert, Rowland & Grubic engineering firm.

“This new area will add to the many diverse recreational opportunities in the park,” Tingle said. “It will be a lot of fun for the park’s visitors, especially seniors.”

A $10 million renovation of the park was completed last year. It was funded by individual, corporate and organization gifts, a city grant and a large donation by the Tingle Family Foundation.

Firestone Park opened in the mid-1930s, funded by a gift of land and money from Harvey S. Firestone, founder of the tire and rubber company.
