Youngstown Board of Education Appoints Interim Superintendent

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Jeremy Batchelor has been named interim superintendent of the Youngstown City School District.

The Youngstown Board of Education appointed Batchelor during a committee meeting Tuesday. Batchelor will assume the role July 1 after the departure of Superintendent Justin M. Jennings on June 30. Jennings announced his resignation earlier this month.

“I am beyond honored to serve as the interim superintendent,” Batchelor said. “I remain committed to Youngstown City Schools and am thrilled to continue the district’s efforts in providing our scholars a high-quality education.”

Batchelor, of Youngstown, earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in social science from John Carroll University and his Master of Arts degree in educational administration from Youngstown State University.

Batchelor serves as the deputy superintendent of teaching, learning and leadership for the YCSD. He previously was chief of staff at the YCSD after a tenure as principal at East High School. 

Before joining the YCSD, Batchelor was the assistant superintendent of Austintown Local Schools from 2014-2018. He also served in administrator roles for various school districts, including as principal for James Martin Middle School in Charlotte, North Carolina, and as an area administrator for student services for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.
