YARS to Welcome New 910th Airlift Wing Commander
VIENNA, Ohio – Col. Michael S. Maloney will be welcomed as the new commander of the 910th Airlift Wing and installation commander of the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.
An Assumption of Command ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the air station. Brig. Gen. Melissa A. Coburn, 22nd Air Force commander at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Georgia, will preside over the event.
Maloney is replacing Col. Jeff Van Dootingh, who recently retired after a 38-year career.
Maloney was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Missouri. He began his career as a navigator and electronic warfare officer aboard the B-52H bomber at Barksdale Air Force Base before graduating from pilot training in 2002.
He is a command pilot with more than 5,000 military and civilian hours. He has also been assigned as the Wing Inspector General and Director of Inspections, and has deployed to Entebbe, Uganda, as commander of the Joint Special Operations Detachment-Uganda and the 5th Expeditionary Special Operations Squadron.
Maloney was also assigned as the chief of Foreign Language Training and the senior director of Air Force Special Operations Command, as well as the US Air Forces Europe/Air Forces Africa liaison officer to U.S. Africa Command.
Before his arrival at YARS, Maloney’s assignment since February was as the chief of the Programs Division at the headquarters of Air Force Reserve Command at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia.
