Panerathon Raises Over $600K for Joanie Abdu Center

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The 14th annual Panerathon raised more than $600,000 to benefit the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

This year’s event, which took place Sunday at the Covelli Centre, saw an increase in sponsorship and participation and brought the event’s overall impact to over $4 million, according to event organizers.

“We are blown away by the success of this year’s Panerathon,” said Sam Covelli, CEO of Covelli Enterprises. “We could not have reached the milestone of $4 million raised for the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center without the support of our participants, sponsors, volunteers and supporters, who have been loyal to our cause for well over a decade. Every year at Panerathon we continue to show the world the generosity and the unity of the Mahoning Valley community.”

At the Joanie Abdu center, 130,000 exams have been performed since its doors opened in 2011. Funds raised from Panerathon have also allowed for the purchase of a mobile mammography unit, which has already performed more than 11,000 exams in the tri-county area since 2016. 

“Not only is it critical that we continue to raise funds for the important and lifesaving services provided by the JACBCC and ensure that anyone can get treatment there, regardless of ability to pay, this year’s Panerathon once again brings together so many from across our Valley to support our neighbors in need of medical services,” said Paul Homick, president of Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley. “We are grateful for the continued generous support of Covelli Enterprises, Sam and Caryn Covelli and the entire community.”
