Clinton, Kaine to Campaign at East High Saturday
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Hillary Clinton, who will accept the Democratic Party’s nomination for president Thursday, and her running mate, U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, will campaign here Saturday night, the campaign confirmed Monday.
The event, which is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. at East High School, is part of a bus tour that will follow this week’s Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
The tour will emphasize “Clinton’s vision for an American economy that works for everyone” and highlight plans “ to make the largest investment in jobs since World War II” during her first 100 days in office.
Clinton and Kaine will begin the tour following a joint rally in Philadelphia on Independence Mall on Friday. They will visit communities across Pennsylvania, from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh, before entering Ohio on Saturday evening. They will be joined Friday by President Bill Clinton.
In 1992, then-candidate Bill Clinton and his running mate, Al Gore, and their wives held an event at the Southern Park Mall in Boardman following the Democratic convention. Eight years ago, Barack Obama, Joe Biden and their spouses stopped in the Valley following their party’s nominating convention.
In March, Hillary Clinton held a campaign event at M7 Technologies and made a stop at O’Donold’s Irish Pub & Grill downtown the weekend before the Ohio Primary.
A strong performance in the heavily Democratic Mahoning Valley is considered a necessity for Democrats to win Ohio in the general election. Large numbers of Democrats crossed over during the primary and took Republican ballots to vote for Donald Trump, who last week claimed the Republican nomination.
This week’s bus tour also will include public events in Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, and Columbus. Additional details and stops on the bus tour will be released soon.
