Rotary Clubs to Sell Specialty Doughnuts for Polio Eradication

Northeastern Ohio Rotary members will join with Rotary clubs across the country Oct. 24 to host a fundraiser for World Polio Day.

The northeastern Ohio clubs are part of Rotary District 6650, and along with other club members and their high school and college affiliates, they are selling cream stick doughnuts dabbed with purple icing. The pastry represents the purple paint colored on the pinkie fingers of children in developing countries after they receive the polio vaccine.

For every $20 dozen sold, a $9 donation will be made to Rotary International’s Polio Plus initiative. The donation is then eligible for the 2:1 match funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and any other District or Rotary International matching funds available, which will help the fund grow.

Rotary District 6650 includes clubs across Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
