Initiative Spotlighting 2 Belmont Businesses on Sweetest Day
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Saturday is Sweetest Day, and as part of its October Belmont Blitz, the Building a Better Belmont initiative is highlighting two local businesses where you can find the perfect gift for your special someone.
Goldie’s Flowers, 1555 Belmont Ave. #1, is the second-oldest Black-owned business established in Youngstown. Goldie’s began operating in 1952 at a building in the rear of the McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
The flower shop was the dream and vision of George and Goldie Williams. Current owner George F. Wiliams Jr. joined the business in 1983 after graduating from Youngstown State University.
A few miles down the road from Goldie’s, BodyGoodies, a woman-owned business, set up shop 12 years ago at 4501 Belmont Ave. after starting out in founder and owner Heidi Goldberg’s kitchen.
The inspiration to transform BodyGoodies from a personal passion into a successful business centered around Goldberg’s desire to “eliminate toxins, preservatives and chemicals commonly found in everyday body care products … and help individuals live with a simpler, cleaner skin-care routine.”
The Belmont Blitz initiative is an effort from Building a Better Belmont to engage the community and celebrate small businesses that are taking part in the vision for a more vibrant, welcoming Belmont Avenue. On the third Saturday of each month through December, Belmont Blitz is promoting and spotlighting businesses on Belmont Avenue.
In December, there will be a drawing for a gift basket featuring Bites and Bits of Belmont – small items and gift cards donated by various businesses on Belmont Avenue. Customers will receive one ticket for the drawing for each business visited on the day of a Blitz. Additional tickets can be purchased for $5. Building a Better Belmont coalition members will have tickets available for sale. Requests can be made by reaching out through Facebook.
