Youngstown, Warren Top September Unemployment Chart
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley’s two largest cities again posted the highest unemployment rates among Ohio cities, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Tuesday.
Youngstown and Warren each reported identical unemployment rates of 5.1%, down from the month before, as well as from a year earlier. Youngstown’s unemployment rate was 5.8% in August and 5.7% in September 2022. Warren’s unemployment rate was 5.6% in August and in September 2022.
September unemployment rates also were down from a year earlier and the month before in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Unemployment was 3.9% last month in Columbiana County, down from 4.3% during both the month before and from September 2022.
Mahoning County reported a September unemployment rate of 4.0%, down from 4.4% in both August and September 2022. Trumbull County, which had 4.5% unemployment rates in August and in September 2022, posted a 4.1% rate last month.
The Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area reported a 3.9% unemployment rate in September, down from 4.5% the month before and from 4.4% in September 2022. The MSA includes Mahoning and Trumbull counties in Ohio and Mercer County in Pennsylvania.
