Pa. Slots Revenue Up 1.12% for February
HARRISBURG, Pa. — Slot machine revenue in Pennsylvania was up 1.12% in February from a year earlier, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported Tuesday.
Gross revenue from slot machine play at the commonwealth’s 12 operating casinos totaled $183.20 million last month, compared with $181.17 million in February 2013. The average number of operating slot machines in Pennsylvania last month was 26,351 compared with 26,620 a year earlier.
Slot machine revenue was down at three western Pennsylvania casinos. Presque Isle Downs and Casino near Erie reported revenue of $8.15 million for February, down 11.72% from $9.23 million a year earlier. At the Meadows Casino in Washington County, February slot machine revenue totaled $16.08 million, a 5.50% drop compared to the $17.02 million reported a year earlier. The Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh managed a 3.00% decline over the year, with $22.47 million in slot machine revenue last month compared with $23.16 million a year earlier.
The western Pennsylvania casinos have been operating with new competition from the Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course, which Penn National Gaming Inc. opened last September in Austintown, Ohio, not far from the Pennsylvania border. The racino offers video lottery terminals as well as thoroughbred racing.
The Hollywood Gaming at Penn National Race Course in Grantville, which Wyomissing-based Penn National Gaming also operates, reported slot machine revenues were up 6.69% over the year, $17.60 million last month compared with $16.50 million in February 2014.
