Eastern Gateway Accepting Police Academy Students

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Eastern Gateway Community College’s Police Academy is accepting students for the spring semester to help address the demand for local law enforcement officers in Jefferson, Belmont, Harrison and Carroll counties, as well as other Ohio communities. 

The academy classes begin in January with coursework at the Jefferson County campus, running through August.

“Students will benefit from a comprehensive and hands-on approach to training that will give them the tools they need to be successful,” said John Crooks, interim President of Eastern Gateway. “Our last two graduating classes had an employment rate of 100%, with all peace officers able to find full-time positions in the Valley and all across Ohio. We look forward to another year of training officers to keep their communities safe.”

Police Academy Commander William Rensi said the academy looks forward to welcoming the new students.

“Our graduates are highly sought because we provide them with the training they need to be effective the first day they are on the job,” he said.

New students must visit egcc.edu and complete an online application, apply for financial aid (if needed) and complete the college application. A visit to the enrollment office is recommended. 

Applicants must also fill out additional Ohio peace officer paperwork in person at the commander’s office, located in Room 2514 on the Eastern Gateway Jefferson County campus. The deadline for applying for the January Class ends Jan. 5. 

A background check, drug test and physical are part of the application process.
