Sharon Regional Ramps Up Behavioral Health Services

SHARON, Pa. – Sharon Regional Medical Center is now providing the full continuum of inpatient behavioral health services for children and adolescents between age 5 and 18.

After a pause in taking pediatric behavioral health patients in January due to health care workforce shortages, the hospital increased its efforts to recruit psychiatric nurses and other health care professionals, and once again has a fully operational pediatric behavioral health unit.

“We are very proud to be able to offer this critical service to the community once again,” said TJ Hudock, senior director of behavioral health services at Sharon Regional. “Too many young people suffer with significant mental health impairments, ranging from depression and anxiety to early onset psychosis. The experience of significant trauma, suicidal ideation and mental illness among children and adolescents has been on the rise in the United States over the past decade. These issues were further exacerbated by the isolation and loss of natural supports that occurred during and after the Covid pandemic.”

At Sharon Regional, pediatric behavioral health patients receive a psychiatric assessment, crisis stabilization and therapy in a supportive environment. A team of psychiatric physicians, nurses, counselors and social workers provide the treatment.

The hospital also offers the full continuum of adult inpatient treatment, as well as outpatient partial hospitalization and medication management treatment options.
