Job Postings Decrease Across Ohio, in Northeast Region

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The number of job openings in statewide and regional labor markets decreased between October and November, according to OhioMeansJobs.

In Northeast Ohio’s 18-county region – which covers Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties – 54,500 jobs were posted on OhioMeansJobs.com between Oct. 14 and Nov. 13, the agency reported.

That’s a decrease of 681 advertisements posted from the prior reporting period and a 22,162 decrease from a year ago.

Statewide, the number of job openings over the period reached 165,433, a decrease of 5,956 from a month ago. The latest job openings represent a decrease of 62,632 from the same period a year ago.

Regionally, 49.3% of jobs require a GED or high school diploma, followed by 29.6% requiring a bachelor’s degree. Only 15.1% of openings request at least an associate’s level degree, 3.6% a doctorate and 2.5% a master’s degree.

The top jobs sought in the region are first-line supervisors of retail sales workers at 2,800; retail salespersons, with 2,779 ads; registered nurses with 2,765 postings; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 2,077; and stockers and order fillers, 1,116.

Statewide, most jobs are middle income, 28%, and upper middle income, 26.1%; followed by entry-level jobs, 19.4%; six-figure jobs, 16%; and high income jobs, 10.6%. Most jobs require at least a GED or high school diploma, 45.6%; while 33.4% require a bachelor’s degree, 14.4% an associate’s degree, 3.9% a doctoral degree and 2.6% a master’s degree.

The top jobs with advertisements across the state are registered nurses with 7,911; retail salespersons, 7,318; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 6,955; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 6,226; and stockers and order fillers, 3,240.
