Chase Sets Up Temporary ATM, Banking Truck in Covelli Lot

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – One downtown bank branch affected by the May 28 gas line explosion at Realty Tower has established temporary operations in the parking lot of Covelli Centre, while another is working to reopen in its legacy space in July.

Chase Bank has “a full-service, walk-up ATM POD up and running now for customers,” said Stephanie Gostomski, vice president, regional communications, for JPMorgan Chase.

“Additionally, we are standing up our banking vehicle which will be operational” June 14, she continued in an emailed statement. “The vehicle will provide full-service banking with two teller workstations, one private office and one booth.”

Chase began operating at the Covelli Centre lot Tuesday morning, a week after the natural gas line explosion that obliterated Chase’s downtown branch on the ground floor of Realty Tower and killed one bank employee.

Huntington National Bank received approval from Youngstown’s design review committee Tuesday morning to hang a temporary 4-foot-by-8-foot vinyl “coming soon” sign on the exterior corner of the Mahoning Building downtown. The sign is to be hung for four weeks before a planned reopening of the branch.

Murphy contracting submitted the request on behalf of Huntington on May 28, the day of the explosion.

In October 2021, Huntington closed the legacy office and moved into the Stambaugh Building office that had been TCF Bank’s office before Huntington acquired TCF in June 2021. A month after moving into that space, Huntington announced it would move back into the Mahoning Building following renovation of the space.

That move has been delayed by, among other factors, a water leak from a burst pipe earlier this year. The Stambaugh Building office remains closed in the wake of last week’s natural gas line explosion over concerns about the structural integrity of the adjacent Realty Tower.
