Weekly Initial Unemployment Claims Rise 1,419 in Ohio
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Initial unemployment claims statewide were up by just over 1,400, while continued claims were down by more than 2,400 from the week before, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Thursday.
Ohioans filed 7,298 initial unemployment claims during the week of June 30 to July 6, which was 1,419 more than the previous week. Approximately 750 of those were flagged for more stringent identity verification, to ensure they are not fraudulent.
Ohioans filed 40,924 continued unemployment claims last week, down 2,421 from the previous week.
Total claims filed over the week was 48,222, down from 49,224 filed the wek ended June 29.
Ohio’s unemployment rate in May was 4.2%. The national unemployment rate in May was 4.0%. Ohio’s labor force participation rate in May was 61.9%.
