Weekend Entertainment | What a Wild Night It Would Have Been
This weekend was supposed to have been a big one in downtown Youngstown.
Originally on the schedule was a concert by country superstar Tim McGraw at Wean Park on Friday that would have attracted 20,000 fans.
Also, the Greater Youngstown Italian Festival was to take place Thursday through Sunday on Central Square and Federal Street.
But the demolition of Realty Tower, which has closed the center of downtown to traffic, put a halt to both events.
The Tim McGraw concert was postponed until next summer, and the Italian festival was canceled.
Remaining on the schedule, however, is the city’s First Friday celebration, which takes place downtown on the first Friday of every month.
The Conkle Brothers will perform on South Phelps Street from 5 to 8 p.m. Vendors, games and other family fun will be scattered around the street, and the downtown bars will be open for happy hour on their patios.
Downtown Warren, on the other hand, will be going hard all weekend.
There’s a boxing card at Warren Community Amphitheatre on Friday, presented by the champ, Kelly Pavlik. Twelve bouts are scheduled, starting at 7 p.m. Admission is $25.
On Saturday, ZOSO, the Led Zeppelin tribute band, will headline another River Rock at The Amp night at the Warren Community Amphitheatre. Opening act is local cover band AC & The Heat, which will start at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $10.
Blues greats Tab Benoit and Anders Osborne will return to town Sunday for a concert at the Robins Theatre. Tickets range from $30 to $50. Show starts at 7 p.m.
The most interesting show will be Wednesday, when the Red Hot Chilli Pipers make their Mahoning Valley premiere at the Robins Theatre. This Scottish act uses bagpipes and drums to blast out rock anthems. It’s a unique hybrid act that has been making a name for itself. Tickets range from $20 to $37. The concert starts at 8 p.m.
