Mercer Food Bank Receives $1K for MilitaryShare Program
SHARON, Pa. – Sharon Elks B.P.O.E #103 recently presented Mercer County Food Bank with a $1,000 check to help feed veterans and their families.
The funds will be used to provide food to more than 600 veterans and active-duty military personnel and their families enrolled in the food bank’s MilitaryShare program, a news release states.
The MilitaryShare program distributes food nine months per year to veterans and active-duty military personnel and their families in need throughout Mercer County. The distributions are private, and recipients must be preregistered to participate.
“The number of veteran households needing food assistance throughout our county has continued to grow over the past several years,” said Rebecca Page, executive director of the Mercer County Food Bank. “The Sharon Elks B.P.O.E 103 has contributed $5,025 to the MilitaryShare program since 2015 to ensure veterans in Mercer County have the food they need to sustain themselves and their families.”
Veterans and active-duty service members in need of food assistance can call Bailey Shepard at 724 981 0353, ext. 105, to see if they qualify to participate in the program.
