Second Harvest to Receive Over $7K from Family Dollar Settlement

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mahoning County Auditor Ralph Meacham on Wednesday announced that Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley will receive $7,691.25 from a $400,000 settlement with Family Dollar.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost sued Family Dollar in November 2022, alleging the retailer advertised products for one price and charged a higher price at the register.

Family Dollar agreed to a $400,000 settlement in February, with $250,000 earmarked for food banks to purchase and distribute food and personal-care items. The beneficiaries were to be selected by Ohio’s 88 county auditors.

Meacham chose Second Harvest to receive the funds “because as a provider to 161 local partner agencies, they can stretch these dollars and make a difference for residents throughout Mahoning County,” a news release from the auditor’s office states.

“Second Harvest Food Bank helps so many people in our county, and I am thrilled to award this money to such an amazing organization,” Meacham said.
