Choffin Earns 5-Star Rating on State Report Card

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Choffin Career & Technical Center earned a 5-star rating on the Ohio School Report Card, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to delivering high-quality career and technical education to students within the Youngstown City School District and other area partner schools.

This accomplishment marks an improvement from last year’s 4.5-star rating. The Ohio Department of Education released 2024 report cards last week.

Choffin earned 100% in career and post-secondary readiness and a 5-star rating for its four-year graduation rate.

Choffin also earned 96.2% in post-program placement, a component that measures the number of students who are employed, in an apprenticeship, join the military or are enrolled in postsecondary education, as well as a 97.7% in technical skill attainment.

“When I joined the administration team at Choffin in 2017, our goal was to significantly improve the school’s report card,” said Michael Saville, director of Choffin. “Seven years later, we moved from multiple failing grades to now a 5-star rating. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the hard work that our students, teachers and staff put in every single day to make Choffin a 5-star school.”

Choffin offers juniors and seniors an opportunity to jumpstart their careers while continuing their academic education across a range of industries, including medical fields, the arts, skilled trades, business entrepreneurship and public safety.

Students attend Choffin for half of the day to engage in hands-on technical training while completing their academic requirements at their home high schools during the other half. The flexible schedule allows students to continue participating in extracurricular activities such as sports while gaining career-ready skills.
