Sharon Regional Offers New Treatment for Heart Failure

SHARON, Pa. – Sharon Regional Medical Center has added a new treatment option for adults diagnosed with heart failure.

The CardioMEMS HF System – an outpatient procedure – uses a small sensor the size of a paperclip that, once placed in the pulmonary artery during a minimally invasive procedure, monitors for pressure changes that indicate worsening heart failure even before patients feel symptoms.

Remote access to daily pressure readings allows the patient’s clinical team to make treatment changes as needed.

Dr. Navdeep Tandon, an interventional cardiologist, performed the first procedures at the hospital Monday.

“Earlier detection and diagnosis are how we will make heart failure a more predictable – and therefore manageable – disease,” a news release from the hospital states.
