YSU Planetarium: Out of This World
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – In January 2023, the roof of the Ward Beecher Planetarium on Youngstown State University’s campus caught fire.
After months of construction replacing the roof, installing new carpet and a new lighting system and replacing the star projector, the public will find that the planetarium is quite operational.
“Planetarium domes are very much a custom business,” says Patrick Durrell, professor of astronomy at YSU. “The hard part was taking the old planetarium dome out and putting a new one in.”
