Horse Racing Season Begins Saturday at Hollywood Gaming

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – The live horse racing season at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Racecourse will begin Saturday, Oct. 19, and run through April 12.

The season will feature three Saturday race dates as well as regularly scheduled racing Monday through Thursday. Saturday’s first race will start at 12:05 p.m. and will be part of a card of eight races.

Stakes racing will begin Oct. 26 with the Best of Ohio program featuring many top Ohio-bred thoroughbreds. On this special card, fans will be treated to five Ohio-Bred Stakes races totaling $500,000 in purse money.

The richest race day in Mahoning Valley history will take place on Monday, Nov. 25, starting at 12:05 p.m. The card will feature the Steel Valley Spring, a six-furlong race for 3-year-old horses competing for a share of $300,000. The race attracts top sprinters from around the country.

The card that day will also include the Sheryl C. White Memorial, a race for 3-year-old fillies and a purse of $200,000. The races namesake was the first African American female jockey, who is originally from northeastern Ohio.
