Weekend Entertainment | This Is Getting Emotional
The entertainment calendar is always packed this time of year, but this weekend’s highlights are higher than usual.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra – the 800-pound gorilla of Christmas tours – will be at Covelli Centre for two shows.
Opera Western Reserve’s production of “La Traviata” looks to be dazzling.
University Theatre will present the world premiere of a comic musical written by one of its own.
And some rising country artists will appear at the Dusty Armadillo in Rootstown.
And that’s just Friday.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra is performing its heartwarming “Lost Christmas Eve” show on this year’s tour. A small number of tickets remain for the afternoon show at Covelli, and a scant few for the evening show. Go to Ticketmaster.com.
“Lost Christmas Eve” is a tearjerker, but it’s nothing compared to “La Traviata.” The tragic tale is sad and beautiful, and Opera Western Reserve’s production of it promises to be one of its best ever. To learn more, click HERE.
If you haven’t been to the Dusty A in a while, Friday night’s show – with Drew Baldridge, Tori Martin and Dylan Wolfe – is worth the trip.
Martin is a Florida native who appeared on season 14 of “American Idol.” She’s also a protégé of Nashville songwriter Kirsti Manna and record producer Bill Warner – who are both natives of Youngstown. Check out the video for her new single, “Lost in the Country,” HERE.
Tickets for the show are about $25 and can be purchased in advance at DustyA.com. Martin will go on stage at 9 p.m., followed by Baldridge (“She’s Somebody’s Daughter”) at 10 p.m. Wolfe will open the show at 8:15 p.m.
“Pete the Penguin’s Vintage Variety Show,” written by Youngstown State University theater professor Adam Howard, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at YSU’s Ford Theater. Learn more HERE.
The ramps and dirt will be on the Covelli Centre floor for Tuesday’s appearance of the Nitro Circus tour. The high-flying, adrenalin-pumping motorcycle and BMX stunt show will start at 7:30 p.m. For tickets, click HERE.
