Auto Sales Down in March Across Mahoning Valley
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – New and used car sales in the Mahoning Valley continue fell slightly in the Mahoning Valley during the month of March, according to numbers reported by the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio on Wednesday.
Combined sales totaled 7,253 in March, a 1.17% decrease from the same month a year ago.
New car and truck sales were down 1.22% in Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties, with dealers reporting 2,661 sold, 33 fewer than March 2014.
For new vehicles, Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, took the top spot, selling 186 in March, 16 fewer than last year. Rounding out the top five were Stadium GM Superstore, Salem, 158 sold; Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, 156; Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, 154; and Taylor Kia, Boardman, 144.
The top-selling car in the three-county area remained the Chevrolet Equinox with 276 sold last month, a 51.6% increase from last year. Of the top five cars sold in the Valley, the top four were all General Motors brands.
Second in sales was the GMC Terrain with 191 sold, followed by the Lordstown-built Chevy Cruze with 115, a 61.4% decrease from March 2014, the Chevy Silverado 1500, 111, and the Ford Escape , with 103 leaving showrooms.
Of the top 15 vehicles in the Mahoning Valley, only one — the Kia Sorento, 52 sold — was foreign made.
