Rescue Mission Recognizes Volunteers at Event Saturday

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – In celebration of National Volunteer Week, Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley will hold an appreciation event at 2 p.m. April 29 in the Rescue Mission’s dining hall, 962 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

The Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley records over 20,000 hours of volunteered time annually. Volunteers help in every area of the ministry from serving and preparing meals to helping with office tasks, reading to children and biblical instruction. Volunteers have been vital to the Rescue Mission for 124 years in the Mahoning Valley, said executive director Jim Echement.

Refreshments will be served at the event followed by remarks by Echement.

Volunteers will receive popcorn favors courtesy of Big Dipper Foods in Youngstown and will be invited to participate a mystery popcorn-tasting contest provided by Pappy’s Krazee Kernels of Warren. Winner of the contest will receive a dinner certificate for two from Texas Roadhouse in Niles.

Tours of the Rescue Mission will also be available for volunteers bringing friends and family.

No RSVP is required to attend the event. Anyone interested in volunteering is also welcome to attend.
