Canfield Fair Names 4 Honorary Campaign Chairs
CANFIELD, Ohio — The Canfield Fair Foundation and the board of directors of the Canfield Fair today appointed four past board members to lead the $4.5 million capital campaign as honorary co-chairs. They are George Berlin, Joe Dickey Jr., David Myers and Donald Snyder Jr., and combined have 81 years of service to the fair.
To date, the capital campaign has raised $1,035,100 to underwrite the construction of a year-round, multi-purpose exposition facility as well as additional buildings and barns, according to the announcement.
“I’ll always have a warm spot in my heart for the fair, so I would do anything to support the Canfield Fair and this fundraising campaign,” said Berlin in a statement, noting that he has not missed a fair since age 5.
Dickey has attended the fair every year except for the three he missed while in military service. “This project is going to improve the 4-H program, the Junior Fair program, the Canfield Fair and the fairgrounds in so many ways,” he said.
Myers, whose son now serves on the fair board, grew up at the fair, which was “always a family affair.” Now his 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren are keeping that passion alive for the next generations, he said.
Snyder said he, too, “grew up at the fair and at 11 years old, I had a steer in the Junior Fair. The Junior Fair gives youth a purpose and a goal to work toward. It points them in the right direction and teaches them the responsibility of caring for and raising an animal.”
In addition to meeting the needs of the Junior Fair program, the year-round facility will accommodate community events.
